Liz Hendley
AICP, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director
Liz Hendley, AICP, serves as the full-time Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director for the City of Flat Rock, Michigan. In this role, she leverages her expertise in economic development, community planning, project management, marketing, grant writing, and consensus building to enhance Downtown Flat Rock. Additionally, she acts as a liaison to federal, state, and local partners, as well as interagency departments, fostering collaboration and growth within the community.
Beyond her responsibilities in Flat Rock, Liz co-chairs Destination Downriver, a regional initiative aimed at promoting collaboration among 18 communities in the Downriver area. The region boasts over 100 miles of shoreline, approximately 10,000 acres of parklands, and a network of trails and waterways that connect its communities, offering a unique blend of urban and natural environments.
Before her tenure in Flat Rock, Liz held positions as both a community and long-range planner, as well as a consulting planner. Throughout her career, she has prioritized environmental issues and the sustainability of both new and existing developments. Prior to her planning life, she was involved in marketing, radio and advertising.
Liz earned her Bachelor’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning with a minor in Marketing from Eastern Michigan University. She has also pursued graduate studies at Rutgers University in Urban Planning and has continued her education through various professional organizations. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), American Planning Association, Michigan Downtown Association and is passionate about exploring national parks.
